Simple Chironomid

Try using x-small or fine wire for the rib, depending on hook size. Olive and green bodies are good too. Also, pick up a ball of white Phentex yarn at walmart and tye a small amount in front for gills. Your on the right track though for chironomids.

I never had much luck with them other than rainbows back home. Here's a pattern that works really well in May back there for rainbows when the midges start hatching. Go smaller with the bead though, I was out of the right size when I tied this one. Larger beads work good for fishing deeper water, 20ft or so, to get hem down quick.

i put some on but only one coat
